TO ENTER SEND:

  1. Completed and signed Entry Form with a non-refundable entry fee of $15.00 per item.  Make payable to Prairie Quilt Inc.  A separate entry form must be completed for each  item entered.
  2. Two color photographs (full view and close-up).  Identify each photo with your name, title or description of entry.  Photographs become the property of Prairie Quilt.

QUILT ENTRY RULES

  1. The deadline for receipt of Entry Forms will be the postmark deadline of November 1, 2008.  

    Quilts must arrive by December 8, 2008. After that date they will be refused.

  2. Entries displayed in previous Oklahoma City Winter Quilt Shows are ineligible for entry.
  3. All entries must be clean, free of smoke, odor, and must be constructed of fabric and quilted.
  4. Prairie Quilt reserves the right to reject any entry, including those that do not comply with the contest rules or, upon inspection, does not meet the quality of the show standards.
  5. Each entry may be entered in ONE category only.
  6. Entries that do not meet these requirements will be disqualified and will not be judged.  Entrants will be    notified of disqualification as soon as possible.
  7. The show committee reserves the right to move entries from one category to another.
  8. All entries must contain quilting, EXCEPT for Crazy Quilts.
  9. If accepted, photographs taken become the property of Prairie Quilt for publicity and/or publication use.
  10. The entries must be constructed and quilted by the persons named on the entry form.
  11. Filing of your signed application signifies agreement with these conditions.
  12. All decisions of the judges will be final.

 

 

PREPARING QUILT ENTRY

  • All quilts must have a 4” sleeve attached to the back of the quilt at the top except for miniatures which may be pinned.  Quilts longer than 95” will have sheeting laid under them or place the sleeve down from the top, 95“ from the bottom of the quilt.  QUILTS RECEIVED WITHOUT SLEEVES WILL BE RETURNED AND NOT EXHIBITED.
  • Entries must be labeled with name of entrant or maker.  For fairness in judging, you are required to baste a piece of fabric over the entire label before sending the entry.
  • Place each entry in a separate cloth sack and then a separate plastic bag, we suggest the large Zip Lock Bags.

    Put name, address and phone number on each bag.

 

SHIPPING / HAND DELIVERING ENTRY

  • Hand deliver or ship to arrive by December 8 2008. Items arriving after December 8th will be returned unopened.
  • Ship in a secure carton, remove all old shipping labels from carton prior to shipping. DO NOT use Styrofoam peanuts in shipping.
  • If you want to be notified of your entry’s arrival, enclose a SASE or postcard in the box.

 

RETURNING ENTRIES

  • Entries for personal pick-up will be released at the show site on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 6 p.m.  No items will be released before this time.  Your photocopy of the Entry Form must be presented at time of pick-up.  If it is necessary for the show staff to copy an entry form, the cost will be $5.00 per page.
  • Entries to be shipped will be dispatched by January 16th, 2009.  If Prairie Quilt is to return entry, enclose a pre-addressed return label (UPS cannot deliver to a U.S. post office box number).
  • Prairie Quilt will return your item via UPS ground, the cost of shipping is included in your entry fee.

 

 

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

  • Notification of the juror’s decision will be sent to all entrants.
  • Prairie Quilt will provide the following “Standard Insurance Coverage” for your quilt while in our possession:  $500 for quilts 60” and greater on the shortest side, $250 for clothing and quilts less than 60” on the shortest side, $100 for quilts 24” or less on the shortest side.
  • Any entry valued at more than $500 must be accompanied by a certified appraisal with the entry form 2009 Oklahoma City Winter Quilt Show

ENTRY DEFINITIONS:

Artisan - A design with any technique or combination of techniques or materials used in a non-traditional way.
Embellishment - Any quilt with nontraditional items attached to the quilt.
First - First quilt pieced and quilted by applicant.
Garment - Must have a recognizable amount of patchwork, appliqué, and/or quilting.
Group - Two or more people piecing or quilting a quilt.  Does not apply to one piecer and one quilter.
Machine Embroidery - Quilt predominately made with machine embroidery technique.
Large Quilt - Minimum of 60” wide/maximum of 110” wide and at least 80” long or larger.
Miniature - Any quilt which has no side measuring more than 24”, using any technique.
Mixed - Any quilt with more than one technique such as piecing, appliqué, trapunto, or embroidery, etc.
Non-Judged Junior - Any quilt made by a quilt maker 18 years of age or under.
Oklahoma Centennial Challenge - Any quilt depicting the conception of Statehood.
Pictorial - Quilt depicting a scene or image.
Prairie Quilt Challenge - Refer to Prairie Quilt Challenge flyer.
Traditional - Pattern or design used in a traditional way.
Whole Cloth - Made from one piece of cloth.

Prairie Quilt Challenge, January 2009

Winner receives a
Pfaff 2029 sewing machine


General Rules:

  1. Judging emphasizes originality and creativity, creative use of the  Challenge fabric as it relates to other fabrics, visual impact, workmanship   and the amount of challenge fabric used.

  2. The front or back of challenge fabric may be used. Challenge piece  cannot be altered (dyed, painted, etc.)
  3. Up to ten other fabrics may be added.
  4. Embellishments are welcome.
  5. All finished challenge quilts submitted by the due date will be displayed at  the OKC Winter Quilt Show, January 2009 show.
  6. The fee of $11.00 includes 1 yd challenge fabric and does not include the  quilt entry fee for the show.  Challenge fabric must be purchased from Prairie Quilt, not added fabrics.  Please refer to the general entry form of the 2008 Oklahoma City Winter Quilt Show.
Quilt Category Entry Rules:

  1. Quilts may be of any shape, but the combined total measurement of all  sides cannot be less than 72 inches or more than 432 inches.

  2. All entry rules apply as stated on the Quilt Competition Entry Form & Information sheet for the 2009 Oklahoma City Winter Quilt Show.
